Proud Mom Day

Being a mom is an interesting mix of emotions. On Monday I had a ROUGH day and the kids happened to get on my very last nerve, so, what did I do? I locked myself in my bathroom/closet for about 1 1/2 hour until they all went to bed. Sometimes a mom has just got to do that. Or else the kids might end up locked in a closet...

But today, today was  a sweet day as a mom.

This morning Maddie had a 5k. She's done a couple of 5k's before but she has always just gone out and run them and never trained or tried hard. This Fall she has been participating in a Kids' Running Group being run by JoAnna Sorensen. This has been a great experience for her and JoAnna says she is a natural runner- good form, etc.. Today was her reward for all her hard work. I was so happy for her! She also placed 2nd in her age group.

Getting a pep talk from the ever encouraging Adrian.

Waiting to start. (I love that they lined up right at the front!)

Gabby & Maddie, these girls have become great friends and Maddie is going to miss seeing Gabby 3 times/week.

Maddie, McKaylee & Courtney all placed in their age groups!

Tonight we got to go to Katie's voice recital. When I signed Katie up for voice lessons her teacher(who is quite outspoken) said that she wouldn't be singing until the recital in the Spring. After teaching her a couple of weeks, she said Katie would be singing in the Nov recital. And she had never had such an inexperienced non-trained student perform this early. I was so happy for Katie, it's good for her! She was the very youngest performer tonight, but so strong. She really is amazing! Feel free to watch her on the links below.

I don't share these things to brag (well, maybe just a little! ;) ) But as a mom I want so badly for my children to be self confident and to have something that they can excel at and know that they are good at it. It's been so fun for me watch these two girls find these talents and work hard at them and start to grow and develop them. I hope I have many, many more opportunities to watch them grow these talents.
