Why I scrapbook.

You know, I've had a lot of people ask me why I scrapbook. Sometimes I've even wondered why myself. While I was in my "Get Organized, Be Inspired" class I had the chance to really think about why I scrapbook and to make a mission statement. Then yesterday I was listening to my Library of Memories class. Stacy Julian said something that hit me so deeply. She said it so perfectly, this is why I scrapbook-

"So, the evidence that I have thus far lived an abundant life, and that I have a happy family, not a perfect family, but a happy family, already surrounds me in albums that my kids can access and enjoy. The ability to focus on the positive and to be the heart of my home and help my family recognize everything that’s good about life. And how important the relationships are with my family. More than getting my laundy done, that's my goal, and it's happening." -Stacy Julian- BPS, LOM

Just before this statement she was talking about scrapbooking and how it's not necessary to be "caught up" as long you are telling the important stories.

A few years ago, while reading Stacy's book Simple Scrapbooks I was introduced to the concept of a "Photos I Love" scrapbook. I knew this was a book that I needed to create. Once I finished this book I no longer worried that I would die and my kids would know nothing about me. The pressure to "get all caught up" was gone. This is a book that I think EVERYONE needs to create, whether or not you are a scrapbooker. This book doesn't have to be fancy. It's a book that is about the "stories" as much or more than the pictures and it's definately NOT about the product. I even got Doug to start one. I think it's time we both update!

When Doug gets home with the camera, I'll post some pictures of some of the Photos I Love pages.

Make it a good day!

So Inspiring. I need to get to work. I have several everyday stories, that I need to tell. I just need to get to it.

Congratulations to you and Doug on the new job. I hope it works out well for you. I would love to see photos of your book-I'm always looking for help in the scrapping department.

Steph I love that quote! I love the part about focusing on the every day good in our lives and the laundry part. I've been getting a little bit better about not trying to keep up with the house so much (you would be proud) but I still have a long ways to go. Scrapbooking truly is so important, sometimes more than the laundry!!!
