Thursday Doug, Bevan and I were able to go see Katie's "Deaf Awareness" program. Their class often works with the Life Skills (severely handicapped) class whose class is across the hall from them. One of the little boys is deaf and the kids became very interested in how to communicate with him. Katie's teacher is a teacher who is always willing to go the extra mile and so she took it upon herself to help them learn how to sign and also about how deaf people deal with different things in life- like how they know the door bell is ringing, talk on the phone, use an alarm, know when their baby is crying. Groups of kids each gave little reports on these things showing pictures they had drawn.

Katie's Deaf Awareness Program
The whole class did the the Pledge of Allegiance in ASL and also signed "Don't Give Up" by Josh Groban. I noticed many people with tears streaming down their cheeks. (Surprise, I wasn't one of them!) It really was a great program! Katie's teacher said she is expecting a baby, October 1, and will not be teaching anymore. That makes me sad, she is an EXCELLENT teacher!

How great for her! Did she talk to Celeste about it?
I wish all school teachers were like that. High Five to her!
Loved this! :) What an awesome teacher and a fun day! Although Logan is using spoken language now, it'll be fun for Katie to say a few things to Logan in sign, when we see you all in July!
What a good memory you have! Pregnant and all!!! Gracie was born on Dave's BD, so it's only fair, huh?
