Walk Down Memory Lane

Wow! If you want a good walk, sort through all those boxes of stuff that you have sitting in your basement that haven't been gone through for at least 5 years, some as long as 15-20. I'm still sorting pictures. I've got all the way to 2002 sorted, purged and into binders! Plus I've gone through boxes of memorabilia and revisited many adventures in my life. I've remembered trips I'd forgotten I even went on. I remembered how cute my kids were and found pictures of people I will probably never see again and many pictures of people who have passed on. It was also fun to realize how accurate my memory is on some things. Sometimes I feel like I can't remember things very well (this is because I'm married to Mr. Photographic Memory), but I found that I remembered tiny details of some events and amazing feelings. It was fun to have those memories confirmed through photos and journals. I guess my brain is just a little more selective about what it remembers! ;)

I am excited to be doing the Library of Memories organization system. This system is about more that just scrapbooking "events" it's about scrapbooking relationships. Which I feel is way more important. As I was going through pictures I found pictures of both of Doug's grandpas (both have since passed away) with Maddie when she was about 18 months. I can see the love, I can feel that connection. That is the connection I want to preserve. I want those feelings to be remembered and I want Maddie to know that she has a connection to those people. I want my kids to know it is all bigger than themselves. People were before them and people will come after and we have a connection to both of them.

This makes me think, I want to do a scrapbook page for both my kids about their names. All are named after family members and I want them to know those family members and know why I chose to name them after them. I think that will be one of my first pages. I know these are the important things. It's great to record the birthdays, etc... but they aren't really going to matter in 20+ years but the relationships will. Ok, I'm getting down off my soap box!

Whatever and however you do it, make sure you're getting your memories recorded!

Have a good one!

Sounds like you and I are doing a lot of the same things lately! That is what scrapbooking is all about...It's easy to fall into the trap of our "cute pages", but it's all about the memories. For me, the "cute pages" just helps to bring the motivation.

I love your idea. I am trying to be better about really perserving what is special and unique about my children. Things that I don't want to forget about them.
